Addinsight is pleased to announce the release of its new device protocol, driven by an increasing customer need for a consolidated platform to manage IoT and ITS devices on a user’s transport network.
Device Protocol v3 is the next step in an exciting product roadmap for Addinsight, which aims to simplify the ability to monitor and manage multiple device types through one platform.
Development is currently underway that enables a wider range of devices and data sources to be supported, as well as making the system connections more secure and scalable.
The Addinsight Device Protocol v3, or ADPv3, which was made available in release v2023.1, is an entirely new protocol that supports a wider range of devices and data sources and allows them to be managed entirely within Addinsight.
The initial release includes support for wireless locators (e.g., Bluetooth scanners) and beacons (iBeacon broadcasting), which replicates the functionality available in the existing ADPv1/v2 protocols. Additionally, the initial release supports reporting of device information such as vendor, model, status, location and power source monitoring (e.g., battery/solar).
This means councils and road authorities with existing devices on their network – such as flood monitoring devices - will be able to bring these together in one dashboard view, making it easier to manage different devices on the network.

Greatly improved understanding of what is deployed in the field, such as vendor, product/model, firmware version and its capabilities.
Enhanced monitoring of devices at a component level to enable the cause of faults to be more easily identified.
Power source monitoring, tracking performance of UPS, solar panels, batteries and charge controllers associated with a device.
Future releases will introduce support for new device types and data sources, and full device management capabilities, including the ability to apply firmware updates.
In addition to the development of the ADPv3, the team have also been preparing for the launch of the Addinsight Partner program.
The newly launched program will provide members with access to the device sandbox, allowing them to test against a live system, as well as providing greater support and technical guidance for integration.
